When you play this song, do you stare coldly like Ron or get wild and wail like Russell? It's a lot of fun, thank you for doing this. |
Artist:
Grace Jones
Title: Love Is The Drug Date: April 29, 2021 8:58 AM |
I actually hadn't heard this one. If this is as much fun as her/Sly & Robbie's version of "Me! I Disconnect From You" (thank you for that again!) we're in for it. |

Title: I Thank You Date: September 21, 2020 8:40 AM |
Thank you so much for this and all the other innocence-era Stax stuff! I've been trying to comment for days on the "Tramp" post and that will not work at all. I went and played it and ... man it kicked my ass. I'd always thought it was a basic up and down bassline but I didn't catch the stuff Duck was doing. I gotta practice, a lot. |
Artist:
Cocteau Twins
Title: Pitch The Baby Date: September 20, 2020 7:29 PM |
Thank you for this. I love this song and have for decades. The end of the riff needs to be fixed. It's F G Bb G F C C Also it's missing the octave hits that Simon puts in. They're not loud, but you'll hear them playing C on the G string. |
Artist:
Virgin Prunes
Title: Baby Turns Blue Date: September 20, 2020 7:11 PM |
Hey! Thanks for this! I might be mishearing it, it sounds like it should be E E EEE C# D E E EEE D E so a whole step higher? FINALLY I've been trying to comment on yours and JPUK's posts for days, it finally took! |
Artist:

Title: Carnaby Street Date: September 16, 2020 10:56 AM |
On a Stax trip? I just looked and noticed nobody has done Otis & Carla's "Tramp" yet. But it's not a request : Sidenote. Been reading a book, "Respect Yourself" about the history of Stax. Quick reading, you (or others) might enjoy if you haven't gone there yet. |

Title: Indigo Eyes Date: September 11, 2020 10:25 PM |
A couple of thoughts after a playthrough or two (or more, shhh): 1. That's a hell of a lot more complicated than I remember from when I pretty much wore out this record at 18. Those octave shots before the verses, I don't have that skill in my wheelhouse at the moment. But I can try! 2. The bass riffs towards the end started to remind me of the ones towards the end of the long version of The The's "Uncertain Smile" (the version with Jools Holland, not the 45 version). Will have to look to see if that's more than just a coincidence. Thanks again, your stuff is always fun to play. (and if you ever do get any bass sheet music from Patrick Fitzgerald, or he decides he wants to teach you how to play "Drive That Fast", please teach us, too.) |

I'm so glad you were able to do this one since I think we talked about it a while back. I don't think I ever realized when listening to KoD in my youth how much Patrick's bass drove the songs, and I'm more and more impressed going back and relistening to the catalog. |

And here's another "Oh hey, I thought I was the only person who thought about this band this week!" that I'm proven .... nope. Again. This will be fun. Some good stuff on this album from that end of Britpop era. I'm going to keep thinking hard about those Catatonia CDLCs you teased months ago. I'm the only person thinking about Catatonia. I'm the only person thinking about Catatonia. I'm the only person thinking about Catatonia. |

Hey quick question - really more of a favor - is it possible that you could add some more breakpoints for practice? I've been working on learning this and Deacon Blues (which is much easier - it's not Chuck Rainey!) but it would be really helpful if there were shorter practice periods. Thank you, this has been great! |

Title: Birdhouse in Your Soul Date: March 5, 2015 9:20 PM |
Yes. Very fun. One very minor recommendation about the bassline - in the verses ane lead up to, when it goes from C-C-C-C down to F, instead try doing C-C-B-C, two F quarter notes, an F eighth note, then G-A-B in eighth notes to follow. That riff seems to be a little more like what's on the album. |
