Stephen Sondheim (born March 22, 1930, in New York City, NY – died November 26, 2021, in Roxbury, CT) was a groundbreaking composer and lyricist whose work redefined American musical theatre. Over a career spanning more than six decades, Sondheim became one of the most influential figures in the field, earning an Academy Award, eight Tony Awards, eight Grammy Awards, and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama — making him one of the few artists to achieve such a remarkable combination of honors.
