@c4110 - you're right, however it's not consistent! Check the intro (as per your suggestion) and then verse four (what is charted). I originally charted the whole song as per your thoughts, then realised that it didn't match up throughout. I'll go through it again and do the job properly reproducing Mr Harrison's lackadaisical approach to rhythm :-) |

It was all over the place, but there were several places where the notes were completely wrong and others where they were in completely the wrong place. You may be referring to the section where I couldn't decide whether to move it all up the fretboard or all down. I made a decision and probably chose the wrong one for you! It's for this reason that I rarely use tabs from UG, as they're mostly a waste of time. This one didn't look too bad when I started with it, but soon went the way of the rest of the UG content. |

@wall_crawler_81 - yes the preview is pitched up but the main song is fine. I wrote it about six years ago and it was one of my early ones. The finger positioning could do with some adjustment and I've learned a few things about charting in general since then but it's not bad. |

I am hearing some slides along the song. For example, you can hear downslides in the second half where the same part ends three times with the Eb note on the G string. You're right - I just don't like slides :-) If the Big Man were still around, I'd have a word and tell him to overdub it again, playing it properly. |

Title: I Thank You Date: September 19, 2020 12:53 AM |
hello james, I need your help on creating bass cdlc. I have made 20 - 30 cdlc so far but they were all had the guitar pro file on the internet. I need to create a few cdlc but they have not gp5 files. I have pro account on ultimateguitar but the site won't let me download the online tabs nor even copy them to paste in guitar pro. The songs not on Songsterr. If you could help me on this issue would be great for me. Thank you in advance. the songs I wanted to make as cdlc (bass): Chris Stapleton - Millionaire, Fire Away, Outlaw State of Mind, I was Wrong Chet Faker - Talk is Cheap, No Diggity Guns n' Roses - Estranged. You're at exactly the same point which I reached some years ago - the tabs you want aren't available on the net, so what do you do? You learn how to write your own. This has two main benefits: 1) you can produce anything you want, and 2) it shows you just how bad most of the tabs on U-G, Songsterr etc are. Yes it will take time to learn how to create a GP file from scratch but I can now put a bass chart together in under an hour - obviously this depends how long and complicated the track is. Start off with something simple - pick a Ramones track for instance then build up to Guns 'n' Roses! You will find it is infinitely more satisfying producing a custom entirely yourself, and you will learn a huge amount about music and bass playing. |

(and if you ever do get any bass sheet music from Patrick Fitzgerald, or he decides he wants to teach you how to play "Drive That Fast", please teach us, too.) I got in touch with Patrick Fitzgerald who told me that he didn't have any tabs etc and had pretty much forgotten how everything went. His advice was tune to Drop D and hit the strings hard! I did get a fair way through working out Drive That Fast. How he played that line and sang I'll never know. Anyway, I think there are two bass tracks - the root notes and then the fiddly widdly bit. It has been in my "To Do" section at the top of my files in Go PlayAlong so I should really get on and finish it. |

Thanks for your idea. Sadly it did not work. After the restart only the standard songs were shown, no Rubettes. I also wonder why the 400 songs were not displayed. Does that have anything to do with the APPID? I would be very surprised if it did. 400+ is way too many for that scenario. Have you successfully installed any other recent tracks from here? |

Title: Sugar Baby Love Date: July 5, 2020 6:14 AM |
Yes. I have about 3200 titles in the DLC folder. Most of them are from Custom Forge. Only about 2800 of these are shown in the game. Since there are so many, I don't know exactly which ones are missing. I noticed it for the first time with the Rubettes. What you could try is moving all your CDLC to a different folder away from the RS folder then add the Rubettes in, start the game and see if it appears. I've not seen this happen before. There is a chance that by some coincidence a duplicate ID is there. The ID in this track is JamTRSugarBabyLove - I'd be amazed though if there was anything else there the same, but you never know! |

I think you may have to revisit this song. While playing in Rocksmith, it seems some notes are gone. After the middle of the song, you can hear the bass notes but they are not on the note highway! :( I see what you mean - I'm not sure what happened there. I'm in the middle of migrating to a new laptop but once all the stuff is across and I can use Go PlayAlong again, I'll take a look - thanks for pointing this out. I remember now - I wasn't sure if the bass was playing in those three sections, so I left them blank. There's something going on there though, I think it's playing some high notes. I've put this back into my queue and will have a look at it shortly. |

I was working on the bass part for this before going on holiday. I'd already checked out and disposed of the tab from U-G as it is missing all of the subtleties of Alan Lancaster's bassline and the fingering is very badly done (which is why I generally avoid anything from U-G). Now you've posted this, there's probably no point me finishing my version but I may get around to it one day. |

Thanks, James! Did anyone ever do Am I Evil? I hadn't pegged you for a big metal fan. Going back 35 or so years, all I'd listen to was Maiden, AC/DC, Lizzy, Motorhead, Whitesnake etc (and I lived in this most of the time). I think it was on a trip to see Maiden at Leicester de Montford that some of my fellow gig-goers started singing "My mother was a witch...." I'd not heard the song or of Diamond Head before so asked a mate what the song was. I've wanted to play this track for years but never thought to sit down and work it out. The version on Spotify is very second rate to the proper album version and I've just managed to get a copy by subscribing to Amazon Music (my vinyl copy is a bit worse for wear). Anyway I though that someone had done Am I Evil. If not...... |

Title: Water Of Love Date: October 30, 2018 2:29 AM |
It's either (most likely) because I hadn't played in months so I've lost the playing ability or the notes on this one are tiring; Either way I found myself switching to this:------------------ 0---0-0--------- ------------2-0- ------------------ Instead of the main riff as tabbed in the current version, which is this this: ------------------ ----------------- 5---5-5-------- -----------7-5--- I don't think the game minds which position the notes are played in. I often used different positions for customs I'm playing. When I write one, I use what I find is most comfortable for me. I'm not keen on using open strings other than the E and A unless it's absolutely necessary. It's a personal preference - I just think a 5th fret A and D sound better. |

Title: School Days Date: October 15, 2018 4:25 AM |
Following comments in the Requests Thread, I've dusted this off after creating it nearly three years ago. I'm going through the song from the beginning and have found that the author of the book I used for the tab was quite lazy. He's used lots of repeats, when in fact Stanley Clarke (as you'd expect) doesn't play the same thing all the time. I'm aiming to fix all those. What's in the book was good enough for me three years ago, but now I prefer to make things as accurate as I possibly can. I do remember that there's a harmonic or something which can't be used unless you've got a 24 fret neck (I stand to be corrected) and I think that's what throws it out in places. Back when I put this together, I didn't know what the "S" and "P" was under the tablature. D'oh, as Homer would say. The slap and pop notes will be added in the new version. It's going to take a while to do, but I'll get it up as soon as I can. |

On Bass, the second part of the verse isn't right. The riff starts on a D instead of an E. The rhythm of the last part after the short break where you have put long open E's doesn't sound right either. Until you posted this I was working on this track, and was trying to work out what exactly was being played in the last part. Finally, in EOF, I'd do a ctrl-L then hit [ a couple of times to separate all the notes and I'd also check the fingering, as going down to fret 3 on the A string then back up to fret 9 isn't very effi |

The "previous" version by Lacey is multitracked and will appear along with 25 other Elton John bass CDLCs on my site later this year. Not that there's anything wrong with your project to redo Lacey's CDLCs, but they have only "disappeared" from Customs Forge. They are not gone and all 2200 are being updated by me. Have fun. I'm certainly not on a mission to redo Lacey's customs - I just felt like finishing this one off as it was about 80% complete. I may be gifted enough to be a bass player, but I'm precisely the opposite of a gifted bass player... so this one scrolls far too quickly for me to keep up. I'm going to have to give it another go once I've had a chance to slow it down a little (at which point I'll likely discover that, no, the problem is that I just plain can't play it) Whether or not I can play it, thanks for making this. I've put a v1.1 in the download folder which has DD and a slower scroll speed. This is one I did way back when I started making customs and it's based on a U-G tab. Now I'm older and wiser, I'd do this from scratch myself as (and I think I'm justified in saying this) the majority of bass tabs on U-G haven't had enough TLC poured on them. If this version plays better for you, I'll add it to my long list of customs which could do with looking at again. |

Is it just me or is the chart on this well out of sync? I start the song and the notes are coming straight away leaving everything out of sync with the music. It looks ok to me - the note lengths need shortening but I did create this a long time ago and have learned much since. I can't see any sync issues I'm afraid. |

Nice one! Is there any possibility you add the guitar part? keep up the good work! I'd love to, but it was hard enough to find the bass part. This was a midi file which was that bad it must have been written for another song, so I had to bin it and do it all by ear from scratch. I've added the new audio - sadly that wasn't anywhere close to A440 either, so I've tweaked it in Audacity. It seem better to me now but I'm open to anyone else saying otherwise. The previous versions were from a tab I found on U-G and when you look at it, it's not that good, so I'm going through it note by note to get it somewhere closer to the original. I'm up to the first bridge in this new version (v1.25) but I'll leave v1.3 until I've been through the whole song sorting out the missing notes and correcting the note lengths. |

This is brilliant but, the tuning is off and I had to tighten my strings slightly to make it sound right, F -45, BÔÖ¡ -45, EÔÖ¡ -45 and AÔÖ¡ -45 (roughly accurate, I hasten to add) I can live with this but a V1.3 would be gratefully accepted. Thanks for this quality bass tune. I can't remember where I got the audio from initially (I may have nicked it from YouTube) so I've got hold of The Final from Amazon. I'll put together a v1.3 with Freedom from there today or tomorrow and make sure it's in A440 |

Personally Id rather retune my bass than mess with the original sound of the song but being in tune is the most important thing ;) If it changes the song noticeably then retune, but if it's only a gnat's whisker like this was, then pitch shifting's ok by me. |

for get what i said mate..... neither of them worked for some reason. when i click info (i have a Mac) it just says Four Tops.... usually they have .psarc or m.psarc but nothing on this one.... Weird! Another Mac user said the same yesterday and I ended up emailing them the files. I've just copied them to Dropbox again and from my other PC they download fine - both with .psarc extensions. If they still don't work PM me your email address (or have I got it already...?) and I'll send the Mac version to you. |

Yeah I'm planning to do Shambell and Flexible Strategies - plan is to do all the B sides (might skip the live Tea In The Sahara though). The two missing tracks are off GITM - One World (Not Three) and Rehumanise Yourself. Rehumanise Yourself is going to be a nightmare. One World's nearly there though. |

didn't know that Sting played a 5-string As far as I know, Sting has stuck to 4 string basses. For this track though he and Stewart Copeland were arguing for weeks about whether the Synclavier or Fairlight was best, so I'd put money on the bass on this track being synth-based. EDIT: Doh - he had a Hamer 8 string fretless of course.... |

Just tried out 1.2 and it plays really well - thanks! I didn't notice any synch problems at all. Excellent - many thanks for the update and pointing out the problem initially. I often wonder whether I've got a latency problem with my laptop as I didn't notice any issues when I played the previous versions. I may just not be paying enough attention! However, when I went through syncing the song note by note, it was way out in places. This may be my call to pay more care when syncing in future. |

First off - thanks a ton for this - I love this track and this tab seems great. There seem to be sections throughout the song with synch problems that make it difficult to play properly on bass, though. I have reverted to playing the older version that was posted a long time ago even though the tab is worse (lots of open strings etc). If you have a look at the bass track to see what I'm talking about I think the spots are fairly obvious (I don't have and timestamps, but it pops up many times throughout the track, so it shouldn't be too hard to find). Thanks Again! Thanks for the feedback - I'll take a look |

I'm extremely flattered. I'm working on My Own Way at the moment. I've started with the album version but I'd completely forgotten about the single version which is a lot faster. Thanks for creating this CDLC. Is there any chance that you could make some updates to this one (one after 909)? It's more comfortable to play the 8th fret E notes as 3rd fret A's, and I'm not sure that the 4th to 5th fret slide on the D string before "Celebrate, this party's over" is ok - doesn't 2 to 3, then open D and back to 3rd on the A sound better? Well, I'm almost done with the whole of "Tubular Bells (Part 1)" for bass and all guitars which probably will make this redundant, although I guess you charted the muted guitar parts for bass, which I didn't. I don't wanna kill myself, especially after already playing for fifteen minutes. :D As soon as you've released your version I'll be more than happy to have this pulled. There's going to be no point having both. Also, if notes are that far apart, often something can be (or should be) transposed, i.e. moved up a string. Nope, that's the way Mark King plays it and if you traspose strings the result in sound will be different in many ways I agree - it does need the slides down from the 12th E etc otherwise it just doesn't work. Hopefully the new interim version with the extra sections/phrases will help. |

Title: Something About You Date: February 7, 2016 3:59 AM |
@JamesPrestonUK - I'm not 100% sure about whether the zoom is controlled by sections or by phrases (since most of the time they're pretty well linked), but it's based on one of them. Basically, the zoom shows whatever part of the fretboard is used in the previous, current, and upcoming section, and tries to transition as appropriate (not sure exactly when it transitions for new sections). If you already have sections and still have problem with the zoom, it may help to put short sections before and after big shifts in the fret hand position. Thanks @albatross213 - I saw you'd given this advice to another writer before I read this. I've just released a new version with more sections/phrases in and this does make a difference. |

Thanks so much for the Level 42! It brings back memories for me as well, moreso because I'm learning on my Dad's bass and this is the song he always played when I was growing up. I feel like it's only right to play the song I remember this bass playing ages ago. Is there any way you could tweak the zoom on the fretboard for this one? I'm relatively new to the game so I'm not sure if it's just me, but it's hard to read the notes at the low end. 3s look like 5s to me and I get crossed up fairly easily. Thanks! I'm glad you like it, and it's great to hear that you're learning a "proper instrument" :-) I'll see what I can do about the zoom. It's not something I know how to do, but it must be possible. Nice one thanks. If memory servers was there not a follow up single in reply to this one ? You are indeed correct! From Wikipedia: "Two follow-up singles were released the same year under the guise of "Gordon the Moron". A pseudo-concept album also produced by Hannett followed, entitled True Love Stories, charting John's love-life ÔÇô and two further singles, neither of which were hits. No other recordings followed these, making Jilted John a one-hit wonder. However, a cash-in single by Julie and Gordon sold moderately well, as did lapel badges bearing the legends "Gordon is a moron" and "Gordon is not a moron". The phrase has also been used politically, referring to one-time Prime Minister Gordon Brown." I suppose I should make an apology at this point to my old Head of Sixth Form, Mr Gordon. For years up until entering the Sixth Form, Mr Gordon was a teacher you feared. As soon as you joined the Sixth Form though, he turned into the loveliest man you could imagine. To my eternal shame though, I did instigate the playing of Jilted John at the end of every term in the Sixth Form Common Room. Looking back, my fellow students must have dreaded me getting onto the stereo.... |

Great documentary, "Classic Albums: Steely Dan - The Making of Aja" (1999) is out there. It's a good watch. Very short version of this story from the documentary. Chuck Rainey really wanted to lay down some slap/pop on this track, "Peg". Fagen and Becker both said "No, they didn't want it". So during the recording, Chuck turned his back so they couldn't see what he was doing. It's a really subtle slap/pop that Fagen and Becker never really picked up on, until many years later when Chuck admitted to doing it for the documentary. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=--=--=-=--=--=--=-=-=-=--=-=- BTW, amazing chart there. I felt fortunate to get an 81% first time thru. Thanks for "Peg" and another great one from "Aja". I think Aja was one of the first Classic Albums shows I watched. I remember thinking to myself what a pain in the ass Fagen and Becker must have been to work for! From then on, I put all thoughts of being a session player behind me as I'd have walked out after punching one or both of them on the nose after the third take at least :-) |

Unfortunately @AndyHayes, nine times out of ten I have to butcher the entire Guitar Pro or Power Tab file to get the bass right so much that the guitar part is completely out of kilter afterwards, and it's impossible to put right. I'll end up having to swap bars around, insert and delete bars, and by the time I've finished, the guitar part is useless. I could put it in, but to quote Eric Morecambe (and I think I've used this once already!), you'd be playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order! Unfortunately the blame lays at the feet of the people who publish the Guitar Pro and Power Tab files. I've got about 250 songs in my Customs Working folder which use files from Songsterr or Ultimate Guitar, and I've only been able to release about 103. I've had to give up or stop work on the other 147 because the GP/PT files are either incomplete or they're just crap! I don't have anything against guitarists - honest! |

Anyways, Thanks for doing the wonderful work you have been doing B) Where guitarists are concerned, it's a case of being damned if you do, or damned if you don't. They moan if the guitar part isn't included, or they moan if the guitar part (which I can't test) isn't right. There isn't always a guitar part to include either. Does this mean a Bass Jail exists where they make you listen to some Sid Vicious riffs on repeat ? I don't think i can take it more than 2 hours. :) Have you been there already....? ;-) I'm happy to have a bassist opinion about this one. I had some doubts about the bass too, indeed some much time above the 12th fret. I looked for live videos and they always played it in duo with one guitar. So i thought, it must be some stoned jazz bassist getting his freak on with his double bass. So i let it that way. It seems his name is Larry Knechtel, a bass and piano session musician. And he plays this one on bass. What you have done does sound very accurate. I truly believe that bass players were "better" in the Seventies - look at all the classic basslines from around then. I think that post-punk, in general, bass lines have been dumbed down. Look at Space Oddity, this song, Maggie May etc, etc, there's nothing like that these days and back then, such basslines were not unusual. I think I might have trodden on a hornet's nest here perhaps! |

Thanks, but if you search on artist the song is in the B-section. Yes, there is a lead version already, but that's not much use to bass players is it? What did that have to do with what @queengeedorah said? He never mentioned the lead path... What he's saying is that you have the artist sort as "Bowie, David" rather than "David Bowie", while the latter is used by the official Bowie dlc and almost every other Bowie custom. If you don't follow convention in the naming of your customs it can make it hard to find the songs in-game. Ah - I see now. My apologies to @queengeedorah. I'll repackage the custom later today with the correct sort order. Someone did point this out to me before and I did change the sorting on several of the solo artist customs I'd made, but obviously Life On Mars slipped through the net. |

Title: Love Song Date: September 5, 2015 1:38 AM |
hey James mate I just gave this a go, its way out of time dude on the lead and the rhythm both the guitar parts come in when the bass intro is being played Based on this, I opened it in EoF and it looks like the guitar part starts 8 or 9 beats too early (for some reason when I do Rocksmith imports, it often doesn't import the time signature?). Also looks like it's missing the solo. More than I want to work to fix at the moment. @JamesPrestonUK - even if you can't play the guitar part, it's not much work to find things like this are wrong. After you import the tab, go through the song and listen. See if the guitar's ever playing when there's nothing in the tab, or vice versa. See if the riffs are in the right places (sometimes repeats will unpack wrong depending on GP version, sometimes authors miscount), and things like that. Even if you can't test it in game, you can test it "mentally" in EoF. Also, sometimes guitar tracks get split up into many pieces (authors in GP like to do this for tone or volume changes so the GP sounds right), which may have happened with the solo in this song. Usually I spend a little time in GP cobbling together different pieces of the guitar into a Rhythm track and a Lead track before importing into EoF. @Albatross213 - yes, I could (and probably should) have checked the guitar part looked ok in EoF. @EverybodyElse - My interest is producing bass customs and I'm not going to spend time trying to add solos, fix duff chords etc for guitar players. There are plenty of charters who produce guitar-only customs, and there have been many tracks they've produced where I wish that they'd also done the bass part. I am not going to offer to add guitar parts to any more customs which I produce I'm afraid. |

@JamesPrestonUK - The download link still points to v1.0 from 2 days ago. And also the record still has it marked that the CDLC only supports bass. Thanks for pointing that out @albatross213 - it should be ok now. Once someone says the guitar is ok, I'll flag this as having a guitar part. |

Hmm, some Serge and Jane. Thanks, James. I wanted to transcribe some stuff from Melody Nelson eventually, so let me know what tracks you would like to see first. :) I would love the first part - the one which everyone (Beck, David Holmes etc) have sampled. |

Great, thanks! - I've seen them 3 times in the last 5 years. I don't suppose you'd consider doing Dune Tune - I tried but failed :). Couldn't get the grid to match up with the notes properly dunno if it was the bpm... I did find a tab for Dune Tune, but it sugggested that there were two bass tracks! I'll go back to it, and if it's any good I'll see if I can sort something out. |

This isn't directed at this custom in particular, I'd just like to say that I love all the work you do and I just auto-download anything with your name on it now because I know it'll be a quality custom. Thanks for all your hard, prolific, and good work. That really means a lot to me - many thanks! I'm really enjoying making customs and it's great to get feedback like this. You've really made my day :-) Again unrelated, but since you're doing a lot of Police stuff, do you have plans for doing 'Mother'? Either way, I quite enjoy your work, so keep at it! Quality bass charts are seriously lacking. Well, to be honest I wasn't planning on doing Mother as it's not really on my list of favourite Police tracks, but leave it with me and I'll see what I can do :-) |

Thanks man, this is fun to play, and a great song. It would be nice if you added a few sections so folk can riff repeat when learning. Also, there are a couple of notes that could be improved by moving them to the adjacent string, helping playablility (save my hand moving about too fast). Play a few times and they should be noticable. Thanks for the feedback - I'll often revisit a track and make the fingering more sensible. I'll take a look at this tomorrow and check the sections. |

Thank you JPUK, you are making some really awesome, detailed Bass charts mate and, I Love 'Em  If there are any issues to be found, one would be that, With your skills and abilities, it's a crying shame that you don't do lead and rhythm guitar charts also :( But, I thank you for your detailed charting and beautiful Bass tones and also, for including Riff Repeater even though that's not indicated in your Info. panel. Also, your naming convention is kind of at 'odds' with the majority of charters here as, for example, this artist title falls under "R" as you used the surname first convention. It's the same with your Carol King submission, when searching by artists' name, it comes up under "K" instead of "C" which, all in all, is not a big deal ;) Anyways bloke, keep up the excellent charting, I'm truly enjoying them as I'm primarily a Bass player and, I would love if you could post a video or two, of yourself playing some of these as, with the way you chart, you have 'Got to be' an awesome player . Thanks again mate B) Many thanks! I take your point about the naming convention - it came from how I organise my CD collection where I'm very OCD about having everything in the "correct" order. I'll re-package the solo customs in first name-last name order shortly. One day when I am feeling brave enough, I may post a video of me in action :-) |

@Leostef, leading silence added as requested. I agree with you about it sounding good on fretless. I must dust off my upright and try playing it as Mr Sumner intended ;-) Thanks! However... (Man I'm really sorry about all this now) I just tried a play through of 1.1v and the note highway is fine, the music needs the silence added as well, as it starts early and is now out of sync. Many apologies Leorstef - I've used the tone from "What's Going On" in all my customs as that to me is a really "bassy" tone. I presumed that the tone would be included in my customs as part of the package. I will look into fixing this tomorrow (my wife has decided that I've spent too much time on Rocksmith today) and once I've rectified the problem I'll upload all my CDLC again.
