How search works
The search box
Type in the search box at the top of the page. It looks in the title, the album, the artist (featured artists too) and the creator.
- Every word has to match, so more words narrow the results:
nirvana unplugged, metallica live. - Type at least 2 characters.
- Pick a suggestion to go straight to an artist, album or CDLC, or press Enter to search the table.
- On Collection, Favorites and the other lists, the box searches that list. Type
/first to pick another list, for example/collection.
Filters
Logged in, press Filters above the table. Each filter narrows the table as you change it, and the Filters button shows how many are on.
- Song: artists, titles, albums and creators.
- Style: genres, subgenres and tags. A CDLC with any of the picked genres or tags is shown.
- Playing: tunings, tuning path, arrangements and requirements. Pick a tuning and a tuning path (Lead, Rhythm or Bass) to find CDLC with that tuning on that part. Several arrangements together mean the CDLC has all of them.
- When and how long: year, length, and Updated or added since.
- Show only: your library (new since last visit, owned with updates, in your Wishlist or setlists), your favorites and follows, and chart details (official, with lyrics, with playthrough, trending, Championship).
- Switches: platform (PC or Mac), parts (guitar only or bass only), abandoned, hidden, owned and your uploads.
Hidden artists and creators, the ones you hid, are left out until you set Hidden to Show. Abandoned CDLC are hidden too, unless you turned on Show abandoned CDLCs in your settings.
Clearing filters
- The x on a filter in the strip above the table removes that filter.
- Clear all in the strip, or Clear filters in the panel, removes them all. Hidden, and abandoned unless your settings show them, stay hidden.
Saved searches
Press Save this search in the Filters panel and give it a name. Open it again from Saved searches in the bar above the table. Update saves your changes into the open saved search. Rename or delete them on My searches.
Advanced search
Advanced search has every filter on one page, plus a few more.
- The menu beside the box searches one field: artist, title, album, creator, tags or creator notes. All fields also searches tags, genres and creator notes.
- Type filters into the box:
artist:,title:,album:,genre:,subgenre:,tag:,tuning:,creator:,arrangement:,requirement:, andis:withofficial,trending,playthrough,abandoned,pc,mac,guitar-only,bass-only,hide-owned,favorite-cdlc,favorite-artistsorfavorite-creators. Pick from the list, or press Enter to apply what you typed. - Your recent searches sit under the box. Save search keeps the search with your other saved searches.
Finding a live, acoustic or other version
Most versions are named in the title or the album: "About A Girl (Unplugged)" on "MTV Unplugged in New York", "Vampires (Live)", "Creep (Acoustic)".
- Add the word to your search:
nirvana unplugged, queen live, acoustic. - To get one album, use the Albums filter.
- Some creators tag them instead. The tags Live, Acoustic, Cover, Remix, Instrumental and Alternative Versions are under Style > Tags, or
tag:livein Advanced search.
